Whats happens when you place a baby in a crammed metro?

Today I was on the metro like I am every morning on my way to the IT University. As so often before it was crowded (probably due to the cold weather).
Among the passengers were a mother and her child (1-2 years). The mother was breastfeeding her child. It was okay by me, but she clearly felt embarrassed herself. She was really inattentive to her baby, and more focused on looking around on her co-passengers, observing if any of them was looking at her while feeding her child. This resulted in the baby also being very absent from the feeding task, which just made it even worse; the baby was trying to get away from the mothers womb, exposing her breast (and the mother did not want this to happen)

After five troubling minutes, the baby was “finally” fed and the mother could sit back and relaxe.

This is not the end. The guy sitting next to them was very interested in making the the child smile, but did not want the mother to see that he was making faces to the baby. It was great fun to observe him making weird eyes and faces to the child, but as soon as the mother turned her face to them, he returned to his serious and formal look. This repeated on and off for yet five minutes.

Then the mother and her child got off the metro.

It’s funny how a tiny child changes the way people behave and act in the public sphere – but still it’s not for everyone to see.. It’s kinda like picking your nose!
