Elderly Men in Movement

How can elderly men be encouraged to physical as well as social movement through tangible computing?

mapOUT is a digital map that allows users to find interesting events in walking distance from their homes. The map will automatically generate a route leading to the location of the event. Locations of friends encoded in the map will be visible for the user, motivating the user to catch up with nearby friends.

The materials used for mapOUT is thought to be as paper-like as technology allows for in order to generate a natural use of the map.

This conceptual design was an exam project in a first semester course on Interaction Design on the IT University of Copenhagen. We were to create a digital artifact that would enhace the motivation of elderly men (60+) to physical as well as social movement.
To make the design usefull for elderly men, we had to understand that context in which the design was going to be used. Therefore, we conducted an interviews to get an feeling of the world seen from experienced eyes.
