Reflections on sketching
sketching is much more than just pen and paper. interactive sketches investigates new ventures of the design space, and allows for a exporative and generative design process
Abstract–This paper reflects upon the process of sketching, and the relations between the actual sketch and the designer’s mind. Three different methods for sketching have been tried out during a semester, and this paper will describe them individually aswell as providing a comparison. The methods are video enactment, hardware and software sketches with Arduino and pen and paper sketching. The process will be enlighted by theorists such as Goldschmidt, Ylirisku & Burr, Arvola & Artmant, and Buxton. This will be the basis of a discussion of the eligibility and nature of sketching. An extension of Buxton’s dialogue model, describing the relation between mind and sketch, will be proprosed, in order to describe the progression in a sketching process.
